Supportive Parenting for Children with OCD & Anxiety

Helping parents help their children with OCD & Anxiety.

Whether OCD or Anxiety is at play, supportive parent training offers a unique and effective approach to helping the child and family system by working directly with the parents.

Childhood OCD & Anxiety

OCD & Anxiety are tough on the whole family. Often parents are left drained, frustrated, and wondering if they will ever get their child back. Luckily, a new evidence-based approach offers hope for families battling this invisible monster.

Assessment

Our first goal will be to identify the current struggles and rule out any additional factors at play. So, depending on the age of the child, I meet with either the parents and child together or the parents and child separately for the first session. This diagnostic evaluation helps me ensure the family is a good fit for this form of treatment. Moving forward, I work exclusively with the parents to complete the ongoing assessment.

Treatment

In session, parents will learn how to support their child without feeding into the cycle of Anxiety/OCD. Our work together will examine parent/child interactions to develop a personalized approach to stop the cycle by gradually decreasing ways in which parents accommodate their child's Anxiety/OCD. Together we will formulate appropriate responses for those tough situations so parents feel confident moving forward with the treatment plan outside of session.
